What is a TSS Visa?

Types of Streams and Eligibility

Short-Term stream:

The stream is for skilled workers who want to work in Australia for up to two years. If you are a passport holder of Hong Kong, you can stay for up to 5 years in this stream.  

The visa can process as early as within 9 days and as long as 3 months. It costs you AUD1,330. To be eligible for the Short-Term stream, you must:

·         Have a nominated occupation on the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL).

·         Have nominated by an approved sponsor.

·         Have at least two years of relevant work experience.

·         A relevant positive skills assessment.

·         Have English language proficiency to communicate, understand, and write for which you require to provide a test score of IELTS, TOEFL, or other relevant exams.

Advantages:

·         The Short-Term stream can process faster. For 50% of applications, it processes within 20 days.

·         The stream leads to permanent residency through other visa programs. You can apply for a PR visa.

·         You can bring your family members with you.

·         It helps get international work exposure.

Medium-Term stream:

The Medium-Term stream is also available for skilled workers. It is valid for up to four years. To be eligible for the Medium-Term stream, you must:

·         Have a nominated occupation on the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or the Regional Occupation List (ROL).

·         Must have at least two years of relevant work experience

·         Provide a positive skills assessment to the Department with your visa application

·         Have provided your English language proficiency through a valid test score like IELTS and TOEFL.

Advantages:

·         The Medium-Term stream allows for a longer stay in Australia than the Short-Term stream.

·         The visa application process faster than the Short-Term stream.

·         You are eligible to apply for permanent residency through the TSS visa program after three years of working in Australia.

·         You can include your family members in the visa application.

Labour Agreement Stream

The stream is available for skilled workers nominated by those employers in Australia who have signed a labour agreement with an Australian government. A labour agreement is a formal agreement between the Australian government and an employer, industry group or regional authority for 5 years. It allows the employer to recruit overseas workers on a TSS Visa and several other work visas to Australia.

The processing time of this stream may vary. It can take a maximum of 5 months and a minimum of 17 days. It is essential to fill the application form and related requirements carefully to avoid delay. The visa costs you AUD2,770. It is valid for 4 years, depending on the terms in the labour agreement. To be eligible for this stream, you must:

·         Working under a labour agreement or going to work under a labour agreement or the nominated occupation must be under a labour agreement.

·         Have at least 2 years of work experience in the relevant field.

·         Must have nomination or your approved sponsored or your employer in Australia have sponsored you.

·         Must have the level of English language proficiency suitable for the nominated occupation.

 Advantages:

·         The stream lets you work in Australia for up to 4 years. Its validity period is longer than that of the Short-Term TSS Visa.

·         It allows you to apply for a PR Visa or a PR Visa that is under a labour agreement scheme.

·         You have job security because you fly to the country with a job in hand.

·         If you want to stay longer, your employer can submit a new nomination for you or you can apply for a new visa.

·         You have freedom to include other family members in this visa.
